Susan
Huxley is a nationally published author and editor who has written
and edited books, magazine articles, and patterns for almost two
decades.
She can develop a book from concept to publication, writes and ghostwrites
instructions, edits the work of other authors, and makes process
samples for photography. She has organized and styled fashion and
step-by-step photo shoots; spearheaded the publication of books,
magazines, and sewing patterns; designed garments; produced brochures;
and tried her best to keep her fabric and yarn stashes under control.
Nurtured in a family of stitchers, Susan developed an appreciation
for the needle arts at an early age. This passion inevitably merged
with her publishing career. The process started with the clothing
and textiles program at the University of Alberta, Canada, and a
stint in Journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto,
Canada. At an introductory lecture, one of the Ryerson instructors
asked students why they were in school when it is possible to get
a journalism job without a degree. "Why, indeed?" thought
Susan.
A little over a year later she abandoned Ryerson to accept her first
job as a newspaper reporter. This led to a full-throttle pursuit
of excellence at several magazines and newspapers, the completion
of a publishing certificate at Ryerson, and immigration to the United
States. Susan now lives in a 150-year-old home in historic downtown
Easton, Pennsylvania, with her husband and standard
poodle.
Susan had key roles in the books "Serger
Secrets," "Sewing
Secrets from the Fashion Industry," "Secrets for Successful
Sewing," "The Insiders
Guide to Stabilizers," and Sandra Betzinas "No
Time to Sew" and "Power Sewing Step-by-Step." Her
newest books are "Today's Crochet: Sweaters from the Crochet
Guild of America" and "Crocheted
Sweaters: Simple Stitches, Great Designs." Susan also developed,
edited, and packaged Crocheted Aran Sweaters for Martingale &
Company.
Susan was the managing editor of a national Canadian craft magazine
called "Crafts Plus," demonstrated serger techniques on
the television channel QVC, and taught at an American Sewing Guild
national convention and two annual national conferences held by
the Crochet Guild of America. Susan also hosts a serger
retreat twice a year, and teaches
at chapters, guilds, and stores across the country.
Susan's company, Huxley Communications LLC, produces writing and
editing on a wide range of subjects that includes advertising, crochet,
health, home décor, marketing, pets, quilting, serging, and
sewing. One of the divisions, the Sew'n Tell Studio, edits and contract
publishes patterns and books for select clients.
